Colin Roberts, CVO Appointed as Falklands Governor Designate

The Falkland Islands Government were today delighted to hear news of the appointment of Mr Colin Roberts CVO as the next Governor of the Falkland Islands.

We already enjoy a good relationship with Mr Roberts through his previous role as Director of the Overseas Territories Directorate within the Foreign and Commonwealth Office.  The experience he has from this role will stand him in good stead when he takes up his new post in April 2014, and we look forward to warmly welcoming Mr Roberts and his family.

Mr Roberts will be coming to the Islands at a fascinating time in their history.  Despite the challenges posed by the continuing attempts of the Argentine Government to disrupt our economy and way of life, Falkland Islanders stand resolute and unbowed.  With a commercial discovery of oil, the Islands are working to responsibly develop our home, so we enjoy the opportunities that income will bring whilst preserving our heritage and environment for generations to come.

As a modern, self-governing Overseas Territory of the United Kingdom, we enjoy a relationship based on the shared ideals of democracy, freedom and self-reliance.  We look forward to working in partnership with Mr Roberts and his colleagues as we work through the challenges and opportunities presented by these exciting times.

Sharon Halford MLA

On behalf of the Legislative Assembly of the Falkland Islands
