The Tourism Department will soon have two very experienced personnel joining their team to provide specialist international expertise to help SHG develop its tourism industry.
Appointment of Tourism Development Executive and Sales Marketing Executive
The Tourism Department will soon have two very experienced personnel joining their team to provide specialist international expertise to help SHG develop its tourism industry. Mr Michael Dean, a business and marketing professional has been appointed to the position of Tourism Development Executive (TDE) and will focus on providing support in a number of key aspects which will include tourism policy, institutional arrangements, tourism and marketing planning implementation, capacity building and training and destination management.
Michael, whose broad knowledge and experience in tourism, has enabled him to hold various senior managerial positions with a number of well-known travel groups, including Marketing Manager of Thomson Travel Group, Commercial Manager for Bridge Travel Group, Marketing Executive for Hoseasons Holidays and Director of Tourism Ideas, Skipton. Michael is expected to arrive from Cape Town on 23 August 2010.
Ms Janet Shankland has been appointed as the part time Sales and Marketing Executive (SME) for St Helena. Ms Shankland will operate from the UK. The primary focus of the SME will be the UK market but she will be expected to assist in other markets such as France, Germany and South Africa. Janet will be working closely with Andrew Weir Shipping Limited (AWSL) to identify opportunities to increase tourist numbers on the RMS St Helena and stays on St Helena by devising suitable offers, packages and incentives. She will also meet with and be the point of contact for tour operators and cruise companies which already sell or have potential to sell holidays to St Helena.
Janet has also had a varied career in the tourist field which includes a six month contract as Marketing Manager for Global Travel, Sales and Marketing Accountant Director of the Bermuda Department of Tourism for Hills Balfour Synergy and Consultant for a number of tourist projects/operators, including Sunset Travel Holidays, Scot Dunn World Oceans & Islands, Turks and Caicos Hotel & Tourism Association. Janet will be making a familiarisation visit, arriving here on or about the 10th August before returning to the UK, travelling via Cape Town on 26 August 2010.
