Just eleven applications seeking planning permission were considered in this month’s meeting, chaired as usual by Cllr Sharon Halford and who was joined by Cllr Jan Cheek.

Just eleven applications seeking planning permission were considered in this month’s meeting, chaired as usual by Cllr Sharon Halford and who was joined by Cllr Jan Cheek.  A third member of the Legislative Assembly, Cllr Emma Edwards, also attended in her capacity as chair of the Historic Buildings Committee (HBC) as one of the proposals to be dealt with was a listed building: a change of roofline on the rear lean-to extension at 20 Drury Street submitted by Juanita Brock.

A second member of the HBC, Gail Steen, was present for the fairly extensive discussion which took place before the decision was taken to grant consent with members voting 4 for and 4 against for Option A of three considered, with the Chair having the casting vote.

Conditional planning permissions were granted for the following developments: siting of a 20-feet container for storage of digital transmission equipment for Government, this despite a letter of objection submitted by KTV Ltd;  Janet Jaffray’s proposal to change the use of a Portakabin sited at 3 Ross Road West from storage to accommodation for a family member;  extensions to the dwelling at 3 Moody Street for Justin and Jacqualine Thomas;  the erection of a conservatory at 64 Davis Street for Mike McKay and Michelle East;  siting of a polytunnel, header tank and sump tank for Falkland Fish Farming at the Moody Brook FIDC Aquaculture Site; two-storey dwelling to be built on land at the rear of 33A Davis Street for Mr and Mrs M Bloomfield;  the erection of a 1.83 metre high fence on the roadside boundary at 6 Goss Road for Kevin and Teena Ormond;  and the siting of a sailing craft for use as a planter with sign at their headquarters for the Stanley Sea Cadets.

An application for the construction of a bungalow on land to the rear of 1 Goss Road for Mr and Mrs R Bryson brought a comment from Cllr Cheek that works had already started ahead of any consent.  Three letters of objection had been received but members agreed to grant conditional planning permission.

There was just one application seeking retrospective planning permission – this for the erection of a fence over one metre in height on the roadside boundary at 45 Ross Road East by Craig Dockrill.  One letter of objection had been received but members agreed to grant temporary permission with the requirement that the additional fence posts be of equal height and all posts and rails be painted or stained in a colour to match the original fence.

Before concluding the meeting, Cllr Halford expressed the Committee’s gratitude to Anna King for her involvement over the past three years in which she has been a Lay member of the Committee.  This was her last meeting and at the next, scheduled for Thursday 1^st April, her place will be taken by  Jackie Cotter.
