Falklands : Falklands Assembly Member to Attend Westminster Seminar

Mr Dick Sawle MLA has left for the UK to attend the Westminster Seminar. The Westminster Seminar is held on an annual basis and is described as a perfect learning ground for recently elected politicians.

 


DICK SAWLE TO ATTEND WESTMINSTER SEMINAR

Mr Dick Sawle MLA has left for the UK to attend the Westminster Seminar. The Westminster Seminar is held on an annual basis and is described as a perfect learning ground for recently elected politicians.  The Falkland Islands asked for one of the coveted places and on successfully being chosen, Members of the Legislative Assembly agreed that The Honourable Dick Sawle MLA should attend.


The Objectives of the Westminster Seminar on Parliamentary Practices and Procedures to take place in London from 7-19 March 2010 are: - explore


OBJECTIVES FOR PARLIAMENTARIANS


 


To learn about accountability and legislation Mechanisms;


To study the structure, administration and funding of a Parliament and the work of its key office holders;


 


To examine methods to represent and engage better with communities (to include a constituency visit);


 


To explore the contributions parliamentarians can make to the issue of climate change;


To explore the contributions parliamentarians can make to the outcome of the global financial crisis;


To interact and exchange views with Members and officials at Westminster;


To mark and celebrate Commonwealth Day and International Women’s Day.


 


The Hon Dick Sawle MLA left the Islands on the air bridge on 26th February and will return on 29th March.  During the time either side of the Seminar he will be taking private holiday.
