Summary of Extraordinary Executive Council Meeting 18 January 2010

An extraordinary meeting of Executive Council took place Monday 18 January to consider oil industry related papers. The first was to recommend to the Governor the forwarding to the Secretary of State for approval a Consent to Drill application from Rockhopper Exploration.

The next two papers related to oil spill contingency planning and their recommendations were agreed. The first of these was Desire Petroleum’s Oil Spill Contingency Plan and the second the Falkland Islands Oil Spill Contingency Plan 2010. The latter updates planning and addresses some of the previous shortcomings which became apparent at the time of the Ocean 8 spill.

Finally this early opportunity was taken to release for public consultation the long awaited Doyle Report on Telecommunications. This would otherwise not have happened until after the meeting at the end of the month.
