Falklands : Mid Winter Swim Attracts 350

A day early but not lacking in chill, the Annual Mid Winter Swim was held at Surf Bay. Approximately 350 polar bathers took part in the swim with descriptions of the water ranging from numbing to exhilarating.

A day early but not lacking in chill, the Annual Mid Winter Swim was held at Surf Bay. Approximately 350 polar bathers took part in the swim with descriptions of the water ranging from numbing to exhilarating. According to Sian Ferguson, who chatted with FIRS’ Layla Crowie, this was the highest number of entrants for the charity event in the last three years.
Described as a great fun day out for everyone, swimmers registered at 1100 for an 1130 start, this year – as always – extenuated by a big bang provided by the Joint Services Explosives Ordinance Unit (JSEOD). The Military also helped with tents to shelter swimmers and to hold the prepared food available to swimmers. Sea and Marine Cadets provided the bonfires.
Tee Shirts depicting the swim were available to all who participated. Money raised will go to the Seamen’s Mission and the Stanley Sea and Marine Cadets.
All sponsor money needs to be with Sian Ferguson by Friday, 24 July and the person raising the most money gets a meal for two and a bottle of wine from the Brasserie.
