ASCENSION ISLAND ELECTION RESULTS

The results of Tuesday’s election on Ascension shows that 188 people voted out of a total of 690 registered to vote i.e., a 26% turnout. The votes for the eight candidates were as follows:

Georgina Benjamin 114, Helen Close 72, Suzanne Edwards 60, Keturah George 129, Cyril Leo 137, Ann Miller 71, Howard Peters 103, Larry Poultney 93

The unsuccessful candidate was Suzanne Edwards, and I am most grateful to her for the fact that she stood thus enabling a clear democratic decision. I am delighted that we can now work with an elected Council on Ascension Island and look forward to the swearing in ceremony and our first meeting on 27th of this month.

Andrew M Gurr

Governor
