The Returning Officer has issued red notices which show how people should vote in the By-election.

Today, the Returning Officer issued red notices which show how people should vote in the By-election. Similar details will appear in the newspapers this week.
People of the West Electoral area will go to the Polls on Wednesday 3 September 2008 to elect a new councillor for St Helena. This follows the resignation of John Reid.
Three candidates are up for election including Mr Eric Walter George of Palm Cottage, Mr Anthony Arthur Green of Oltonia, Knollcombes, and Mr Cyril Keith Gunnell of Cashem House, Napoleon Street.
There is provision in the Elections Law for people, who are off the Island, to vote by Proxy providing they are on the 2008 Register of Electors. This applies to those who are on Ascension and for these people forms can be obtained from the Assistant Registration Officer Gerrilyn Crowie, and also for those on the RMS who can collect a form from Captain Andrew Greentree. Voting by Proxy is also permitted for people on St Helena who are ill, disabled or incapacitated in any way. Proxy forms can be obtained from Gillian Francis or Aldhelm Garner at the Castle.
Proxy forms should be completed and returned to the Returning Officer by 9am on Monday 1 September 2008.
Your proxy can be anyone on the Island, even if they are not registered electors. However, you cannot nominate someone to be your proxy if they are already a proxy for someone else.
