By J. Brock (FINN)
A reception at Government House on Friday evening was held in honour of the Falkland Islands Rifle Association’s Bisley team winning the trophy for the Junior Kolapore Cup, the Junior Mackinnion and the Nobel Aggregate Cup. In his welcoming speech H. E. the Governor explained that the word Junior referred to the number of people on the shooting team and not the ranking of the cup. He also congratulated the team consisting of Captain Ken Aldridge, Derek Goodwin, Mark Dodd (the youngest shooter)and Christian Berntsen. He also quipped about the Australian supposedly winning the competition while not being there to shoot in it. Fortunately for the Falklands the mistake was rectified.
Steve Dent also congratulated the shooters on their achievement – the first in 51 years. He said that everyone involved should be congratulated and he said that FIOGA Chairman, Patrick Watts, in Holland for the Northern summer, was also delighted at the news.
