During 2007, the 25th Anniversary of the Falklands Conflict, personnel serving with the British Forces in the Falklands raised more than £25,000 for the charity Combat Stress – that’s £1,000.00 for each year since liberation in 1982.

British Forces South Atlantic Islands decided to raise £25,000 during 2007 to help comrades in need who bear the psychological scars of service – a highly ambitious target for a compact and busy operational theatre.

‘Combat Stress’  - a charity - was selected because it has some 400 Falklands Veterans on their books.  Around 70 of them joined the recent SAMA(82) Pilgrimage to the Falkland Islands.  The Charity also benefits those who have served in Bosnia, The Gulf, Sierra Leone, Afghanistan, Northern Ireland and elsewhere.

UK Military and Civilian personnel serving in the Falkland Islands participated in a wide range of activities featuring acts of stamina, strength and endurance along with social activities such as discos and quiz nights.  The £25,000 target was breached during a challenging demonstration of teamwork and strength with a Hercules C130 aircraft being towed along the runway at Mount Pleasant.

Commander of British Forces South Atlantic Islands, Brigadier Nick Davies said:

“I am immensely proud of all who contributed to this spectacular achievement and would like to pay tribute to the wholehearted and enthusiastic participation in this project and the varied and creative ways found to raise the money”.

A cheque for £25,000 was presented to Combat Stress representative, Mr Toby Elliot, prior to the SAMA(82) Veterans departure from the Falkland Islands following their pilgrimage.
