PRESS RELEASE TO COVER  ISSUE OF FCO PAPER ON GOOD GOVERNANCE

Cllrs Francis and Summers along with other representatives from British Overseas Territories pose with Lord Triesman in this official photograph.

At the Overseas Territories Consultative Council held in London on 21-22 November 2006 the FCO presented a draft paper on Good Governance.  This followed requests from Overseas Territories at previous conferences for the concept of Good Governance contained in the Overseas Territories White Paper to be further defined.

Following discussions and some redrafting the attached paper was agreed. It sets out a number of aspirations and benchmarks against which we can measure ourselves both in Elected Government and in Public Service. It also helps to explain the role of the Governor in this process.
