Submitted by (Juanita Brock) 09.01.2006 (Article Archived on 23.01.2006)

This important Environmental Plan has been updated since it was issued in 2000.

South Georgia Environmental Management Plan 2005 Published

By J. Brock (FINN)

Following a decision by the Government of South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands a revision of the environmental management plan, first issued in 2000, has been drafted and published on the British Antarctic Survey’s Website at http://www.antarctica.ac.uk.

Considerable input from a wide range of stakeholders and interested parties on what the plan should contain is in the new draft.

The new plan will be formally published early in 2006 as well as being available via the Government web site) and will set out the environmental policies that the Government intends to pursue for the next five years and which will be underpinned by new legislation.

The draft narrative and policies are now available for comment through until 30 January on the above named website.
