SOUTH GEORGIA: A BUSY PLACE FOR WEDDINGS
By J. Brock (FINN)
One of South Georgia’s busiest people is Pauline Carr, who, besides being a curator at the South Georgia Museum, is also the Island’s Registrar. On December 27th 2005 she conducted a civil wedding at the Whalers’ Church at Grytviken. She also will be officiating at two weddings in February. One wedding will be on the 15th and the other, between Peter Damiseh of Marina del Rey, California and Lindsey Friedsam of Tampa, Florida, will take place on the 19th. That wedding will take place (weather permitting) on the Southern Hillside above King Edward Cove near the cemetery.
“The Fur Seals might make it interesting,” she quipped.
“I am getting plenty of practice in being a registrar,” Ms. Carr continued.
All of the couples that marry on South Georgia travel there via cruise ship and make the wedding part of the honeymoon trip.
