S.Georgia : South Georgia Heritage Trust To Raise Funds for Restoration

The South Georgia Heritage Trust will be restoring the exterior of the Manager's Villa at Stormness, where Shackleton sought help after his epic journey.

SOUTH GEORGIA HERITAGE TRUST TO RAISE FUNDS FOR RESTORATION

Former CBF, David Nicholls and a board of international trustees have created the South Georgia Heritage Trust (SGHT), a charitable corporation/non government organisation (NGO).  According to the organisation’s website at http://www.sght.org the Trust has been created to bring public benefit to South Georgia by raising funds for a variety of projects.


 


Environmental goals include rat eradication, creating a self sufficient power source, developing a database, undertaking surveysand clearing leaking oils from disused whaling stations.  Heritage goals include Restoring the Husvic Manager’s House and Radio Shack, Developing a Discovery House education centre, helping the Museum by creating a CD/DVD about the Grytviken Whaling Station, restoring the external fabric of the Stormness Manager’s Villa and restoring the Grytviken Nybrakka (Whalers’ Accommodation).
