BECKSIDE FARM COULD HAVE AN EDUCATIONAL FUTURE

If Marcus Morrison has his way Beckside Farm could be the ideal site to further expand the Training Centre’s range of training and qualification for apprentices, school students and the General Public. It has long been thought that agricultural training in the Falklands would help put the Islands on the map and be a centre for not only training but research and agricultural development. It would, like the South Atlantic Environmental Research Unit be an asset to the Falklands, attracting interest from colleges and universities far and wide.
The area has a lot going for it in that it is near to Stanley as well as the Sand Bay Abattoir. Its nearness also to the training centre and to the MPA Road and Stanley Airport is in Beckside Farm’s favour.
OFTEC courses, temporarily a part of the Training Centre’s curriculum, could have an excellent agricultural outlet, given the development of Beckside Farm. What’s more is the offer by Chichester College and Brinsbury Agricultural College to assist the Training Centre with resources when required could strengthen relationships with colleges and universities in the UK.
As yet there is no estimate on costs for the proposed Agricultural College but this item would be researched if enthusiasm for the project grows.
