According to a press release from the Falkland Islands Government H. E. the Governor Mr Nigel Haywood has appointed Mr Mark Lewis as the new Attorney General of the Falkland Islands, following interviews last week in London. The appointments panel consisted of the Governor, Chief Executive, Attorney General and an FCO advisor plus appointed recruitment consultants Odgers Ltd. It considered a total of 14 candidates of whom 9 were interviewed for the short-list of 3 final interviews.

Mr Lewis (45) is currently Audit Solicitor for the Audit Commission in England. Previously he has worked as a solicitor in a number of UK local authorities and as Director of Corporate Services/Head of Law and Administration for Torbay Council in the UK. He graduated in Law from Nottingham Trent University in 1987 and qualified as a Solicitor in 1989.

He is married to Hengameh and has two children. His family will remain in the UK to complete secondary schooling.

Governor Haywood said: “We had a good field of candidates which included a number of senior law officers from other administrations. Mr Lewis showed strong skills and achievements across the range of areas. His appointment is good news for the Falklands and I have no doubt he will play a key role in ensuring our effective government”.

“I’m delighted to have been appointed after a very thorough process and look forward to continuing the excellent work of David Pickup and his team,” Mr Lewis said.

Mr Lewis is the replacement for Mr David Pickup as Attorney General of the Falkland Islands. Mr Lewis is expected to take up his appointment in April next year.
