General Purposes Committee met on Wednesday, 20 October 2010 and on Monday, 25 October the Honourable Gavin Short gave the media a brief about what happened at the meeting.
Gypsy Gove Toilets:
Besides there being approximately 50 EXCO papers to discuss, Members of Legislative Assembly went on to consider the toilets at Gypsy cove, which are still owned by the Tourism Department but maintained by the Public Works Department. He went on to say that no money had changed hands over this and that it was acknowledged the situation was not ideal and that the toilets would have to be replaced.
Remembrance Sunday:
It was decided that the Hon Mr Roger Edwards would read out the Roll of Honour at Remembrance Sunday on 08 November this year.
FIGO Issues:
The redecoration and renovation of the FIGO flat was discussed. MLAs also suggested that FIGO Staff should be brought to the Falklands every three years for an as yet unspecified period of time to familiarise themselves with the scene here.
Meet and Greet:
H. E. the Governor Mr Nigel Haywood attended. The meeting was informal and featured the ground rules which were expected by both Assembly Members and H. E.
Status Ceremonies:
It was decided that the Court and Council Chamber of the Town Hall was inappropriate for Status Ceremonies which previously had been held at Government House. It was felt that Government House was the best place for them and EXCO would be requested to consider this.
Letters to Ministers:
Letters of congratulation were written to The Rt Hon Ms Yvette Cooper, Shadow Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs and to the Rt Hon Mr Jim Murphy, Shadow Secretary of State for Defence.
Smoking in Public Places:
The Select Committee considering the Bill on Smoking in Public Places will meet on Thursday, 28 October 2010.
