The Falklands team at the Commonwealth Games in Delhi have had a busy weekend of competition. Team Manager, Mike Summers (MS) reports on how Badminton players fared on Saturday.
MS: Badminton started the main competition. In the ladies singles, Laura lost 2 to 6 to a gal from Mauritius. Doug Clark then played a competitor from the Maldives. He lost 31 to 15 in the first set, and the second set, 21 to 11. We had high hopes of a victory but he let it slip away to 14. He was followed by Michael Brownlee who had to play the No 1 Indian and he ended up having to play the whole of India as everyone does here playing an Indian competitor and he lost 8 to 3.
Doug and Anna then took on a Nigerian in the mixed doubles and they lost 16 to 6, which was a pretty good result.
SB: The Falklands shooters have also been in action.
MS: In the individual Pistol, Nevin scored a 507 and Mario 490. All exceeded their personal bests and that was very creditable for both of them. In shotgun pairs, Saul Pitaluga scored a 20, 19, 21, and 23 for a very good 83 and Bono was shooting very well with a 19, 18 and a 21 and then dropped to 13 in his 4th round and finished with a 71. They didn’t figure in the top end of the ratings but it’s a good enough performance.
In Full Boar shooting, Gareth and Derek started their competition on Saturday over 300 yards. In the pairs Derek scored 248. In the individuals Derek scored a 30 and a 44 and Gareth a 32 and a 46. That placed them around mid-table.
