Arrival of Public Sector Modernisation Adviser
Public sector modernisation continues within the St Helena Government and on Sunday 10 October, Robin Swaisland will arrive to advise SHG on next steps with the programme. In addition he will help to implement necessary changes to the way Government works.
Overall, his work on St Helena will be aimed at making SHG more efficient and effective in what it does. This will see Robin working closely with all Government Departments over an 18 month period with his work being funded by the Department for International Development.
During his first few weeks, Robin will look at what has been achieved so far and the work that is still to be done. He will review the modernisation programme and consider whether the current objectives remain relevant or whether other areas of work should be given priority. This will see him working with various officials who have been closely involved in the public sector modernisation programme.
Robin’s experience in public sector modernisation spans 15 years and during this time he has worked on projects in different countries. This has included work in Tanzania and Grenada where he led public sector reforms. He was also in Grenada when Hurricane Ivan hit in September 2004 and spent three years working on the island’s recovery programmes.
Robin will be accompanied by his wife Nanette and said “I am looking forward to working with a new group of people and my wife and I are hoping to enjoy the Island’s many walks.”
Acting Chief Secretary, Gillian Francis, said: “We are looking forward to Robin’s arrival on 10 October. Public sector modernisation continues to be one of the priority areas for SHG. We are now into the second year of the public sector modernisation programme and Robin’s input at this stage will be most welcome.”
