A meeting of General Purposes Committee took place on Wednesday, 15 September 2010.  On Thursday, 16 September 2010 the Hon Mrs Sharon Halford briefed the media on what happened at that important meeting.

Exco papers were discussed in the first part of the meeting, followed by a list of Members who are going away and who will be covering for them.  Roger Edwards is away and Jan Cheek will leave shortly.  Both will return on 08 October.  The Hon Mr Bill Luxton will return on 15 October.  The Hon Glenn Ross will cover for the Hon Mrs Jan Cheek on the HMSC, Planning and Building Committee and Lands Committee.

Councillors discussed a one meeting ban on recording and broadcast of Public meetings by FIRS.  The Hon Mrs Halford explained it was experimental and was geared to find out if people shied away from the microphone. Councillors also wanted to test the quality of reporting and felt it could be more interesting.

H. E. the Governor Mr Alan Huckle came along for his last GPC meeting.  Mr Tim Thorogood, the Chief Executive also came along in the afternoon.

The new Governor Mr Nigel Harwood, will be sworn in on 18 October 2010.

Members found the last away day very useful and are planning another day under the Central Management Team.  The day is scheduled for the end of October when members will be discussing how things have gone, what has improved, objectives and ideas for progress.  In mid-October it is planned to have a similar day with the Military.  The last day was at MPA and this time it will be held in Stanley.
