Submitted by Falkland Islands News Network (Juanita Brock) 02.07.2010 (Article Archived on 16.07.2010)

Graham France tells us what happened during this important committee meeting.

PLANNING & BUILDING COMMITTEE

HELD 1st JULY 2010

(By Graham France)

Of the seven applications for planning permission considered at this month’s meeting of the Planning and Building Committee, chaired by Councillor Sharon Halford, three were for permission in principle for the proposed buildings:

Storage building with lay-down area at 2 Boxer Bridge Road for Ian Stewart Construction Limited;

Warehouse and lay-down area at 9 Coastel Road for Goodwin Offshore Limited;

Timber frame retail building south of Plot 25 Lookout Industrial Estate for Ian Stewart Construction Limited.

All three received conditional consent and members noted that in the case of the third submission above a letter of disagreement had been received.

The other four applications, for detailed planning permission, also received conditional consent:

A two-storey extension to their dwelling at 49 Ross Road East for Peter and Cheryl            Roberts; Siting and operation of a mobile catering unit at the Jetty Visitor Centre on Ross Road for Christine McKay; Erection of a bungalow at 10 Racecourse Road for Paul Jonas and Cheryl Bonner; Erection of a single-storey dwelling for use as tourist accommodation on the Bleaker Island Settlement for Mike Rendell.

After reviewing the above, member’s attention was drawn to seven applications for building permits and one for an Off-Street Parking Grant – the latter on land at 87a Davis Street for Jason Stephenson which was granted. The next meeting will be held on 5th August starting at 8.30am in the Liberation Room.
