The Falklands have marked the 28th anniversary of liberation with a service at Christ Church Cathedral officiated by the Rev Richard Hines who welcomed visiting veterans as well as H. E. the Governor Mr Alan and Mrs Helen Huckle, Commander British Forces, Commodore Philip Thicknesse and Mrs Thicknesse, Members of Legislative Assembly, and the general public.

The Falklands have marked the 28th anniversary of liberation with a service at Christ Church Cathedral officiated by the Rev Richard Hines who welcomed visiting veterans as well as H. E. the Governor Mr Alan and Mrs Helen Huckle, Commander British Forces, Commodore Philip Thicknesse and Mrs Thicknesse, Members of Legislative Assembly, and the general public.
Music was provided by the Light Cavalry Band and readings were done by Mr Dick Sawle MLA, H. E. the Governor Mr Alan Huckle, Comodore Thickness, and a member of the Youth Organisations.. Prayers were done by Ms Jaqui Earnshaw, Congrigational Leader from the Tabernacle Free Church and the Armed Forces Chaplain.
Fr Peter Norris from St mary’s Roman Catholic Church delivered the homily which stressed love that causes one to lay down their lives for friends and the significance of sending one man away to conflict and getting another back. He expressed gratitude for the sacrifices made for us both by mental and physical injury and by paying the ultimate price.
After the service the Band of the Light Cavallry along with contingents from the Royal Navy,Falkland Islands Defence Force and Royal Airforce marched to the 1982 War Memorial where a brief service and act of commemoration took place. Members of the youth organissations – Guides, Scouts and Sea and Marine Cadets were present at the Monument. Wreaths were laid by H. E. the Governor Mr Alan Huckle, Commodore Thicknesse and the Hon Dick Sawle, MLA as well as wreaths on behalf of the merchant Navy and Veterans associations, etc.
After the Commemoration there was a civic reception held at the Town Hall for members of the public as well as the participants of the parade and services. In the afternoon restaurants and public houses put on special meals for the occasion.
In the evening a liberation dance at the Town Hall helped to put a perfect end to Liberation Day. Live music for the dance was provided by The Rock and Dance Band Section of the Light Cavallry Band.
