Mobility in Public Service – Department Heads Swop Roles

As part of its Public Sector Reform Programme and, in developing its workforce, the St Helena Government is keen to encourage staff to move from one department to another.

In so doing, employees are not only able to learn and develop new skills themselves but, it gives them the opportunity to share their own knowledge and expertise with work colleagues in other departments.  It also helps to broaden an employee’s understanding of the workings of Government throughout the different departments, ensuring that the Public Service operates as one body.

July 2010 will see a move in this direction with a change in management of the Post Office and the Employment and Social Security Department.

Following discussion with both Heads of Department ,Mr Ronald Coleman will move to the Post Office where he will take on the position of Postmaster, while Mrs Beverley Francis will be appointed Head of the Employment and Social Security Department.

During July, there will be a handing over of responsibilities between the current Employment Benefits Administration Officer and the Postmistress, with the aim of the Post Office and Employment and Social Security Department being fully operational under their new management by 1 August 2010.

Good wishes are extended to both Ronald and Beverley in their new roles.
