A parade to celebrate the 84th birthday of Her Majesty the Queen was held at Victory Green on Wednesday 21st April 2010.
The parade will form up at Victory Green at 10.15 beneath snow clouds and intermittent and bright sunshine. His Excellency the Governor arrived at 10.30 hours and inspected a Royal Naval contingent from HMS YORK, Members of the Falkland Islands Defence Force, and a contingent from MPA including the Royal Air Force, Army and Royal Navy.
One Saluting Gun on Victory Green was fired in honour of the Queen’s birthday and this was followed by a march past at which His Excellency the Governor Mr Alan Huckle took the Royal Salute. Also taking the salute on the dais was Commander British Forces South Atlantic Islands, Commodore Philip Thicknesse. Lively marching music was provided by the Minden Band of the Queen’s Division.
In attendance were members of youth organizations such as the Scouts, Guides, Sea and Marine Cadets. Representatives of the Legislative Assembly and the Falkland Islands Government were also in attendance. Due to the unstable weather the fly-past scheduled for 10.45 hours had to be abandoned.
A sunny afternoon brought many people to the lawn at Government House where a reception in honour of Her Majesty the Queen took place. Minden Band of the Queen’s Division provided music and a marching display at the reception. The Loyal Toast took place at 1400hrs.
