About 30 members of the demining team from BACTEC and 100 members of the public attended a demonstration on Sapper Hill on Thursday to show public confidence that the minefield that had been established since 1982 had been completely cleared.

The demonstration began with an introduction by Mr Kevin Bryant, BACTEC Operations Manager.  He explained the parameters of the minefield and told those present how the field was laid out.  He went on to explain how it was cleared.

Michael Madziva, Clearance Supervisor then explained the technical aspects of mine clearance and the conditions encountered during the 77 days it took to do the job.

H.E. the Governor Mr Huckle lead members of the public on to the cleared minefield.  The area is still classified as a minefield but this didn’t stop an impromptu game of football.  After the Game H.E. the Governor Mr Alan Huckle thanked BACTEC and the Zimbabwean technicians for a sterling job.
