The new Legislative Council is to meet formally tomorrow, 19 March, at the Court House in Jamestown, at 10am.

The new Legislative Council is to meet formally tomorrow, 19 March, at the Court House in Jamestown, at 10am.
This is to be an historic meeting, with the new Committee Chairmen answering questions for the first time, under the new committee structure. Questions can be put to any of the eight Committee Chairs instead of the previous five, or to the Chief Secretary, Financial Secretary and the Attorney General.
The key issue on the agenda will be the budget, with the new Financial Secretary, Paul Blessington, giving his budget speech. Another financial matter will be discussion of the Income Tax (Amendment) Bill.
Overall, Council will deal with 12 Motions and 33 Questions.
At the meeting, each Committee Chairman will also give a statement on their responsibilities, the work they have achieved thus far, and the plans they have for the future.
The meeting is expected to run for three days, concluding on Tuesday 23 March.
The Honourable Speaker, Mrs Cathy Hopkins MBE, will preside and the Deputy Speaker, Eric Benjamin, will also be in attendance.
