Festive lunch for de-miners held at seamen’s mission

By Alison Ward

The Tabernacle Church congregation has been added to recently by the attendance of a group of the Zimbabwean de-miners working here for BAC Tec. They formed a choir and sang 2 songs at the Tabernacle Christmas broadcast service, one in English and the second in Shona. On Christmas Day a traditional Roast Dinner with all the trimmings held at the lighthouse seaman's centre was arranged by the members of the Tabernacle and all the de-miners were invited. The meal was superbly cooked by Debbie and Maurice at the seaman's centre and everyone thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon playing pool, table soccer and using the internet. The Tabernacle have so many people to thank.

On hearing of the event Cable and Wireless very kindly donated a £10.00 phone/internet card for every de-miner, this was such a welcome gift as communicating to loved ones, especially at Christmas time is so important, the Tabernacle would like to sincerely thank Mrs Alison Thorogood for arranging the phone cards.

Each de-miner at the meal was given a Christmas stocking filled with Christmas goodies and we would like to thank the numerous anonymous donators of the gifts. And finally, thanks to Debbie and Maurice for not only donating the Turkeys and cooking such a wonderful meal but for sharing their Christmas Day with us. After the meal everyone enjoyed a time of fellowship together.
