Government Starts Consultation on Media

Note:  See also the St-M Press Release Below.

The St Helena Government is consulting on the media and on how it might develop in St Helena. SHG is interested in this area because a significant amount of public money is involved and media plays a key role in our society.

As part of the consultation exercise, SHG will be surveying around 25% of the population to get up to date information on what they want to read and listen to when they open their newspapers and switch on their radios. This should provide a better understanding of what people are looking for and inform future discussions with the media and other stakeholders.

Therefore, a series of questions will relate to the type of programmes people would like to hear on the radio, the things they would like to read in the newspapers, and in what way, if at all, the Government should be getting involved in media issues.

In addition, there will be the opportunity for participants to give general comments on how they think the media could develop on St Helena.

Surveys should reach people before the Christmas break and SHG is hoping that a high proportion of people will respond to the questions.

Those who do not get a survey can still comment as part of the consultation. Submissions should be made in writing to “The Office of the Chief Secretary, Media Consultation” by no later than 15 January 2010.

Saint FM/ St Helena Independent Start Consultation

on St Helena Government

St Helena Independent/Saint FM  is consulting on the St Helena Government  and on how it might develop in St Helena. We are interested in this area because all public money is involved and St Helena Government plays an imperative role in our society.

As part of the consultation exercise, Saint FM/Saint Helena Independent will be issuing a survey in the St Helena Independent on 8th January 2010 to get up to date information on what they want from the government they are paying tax and dues for. This should provide a better understanding of what people are looking for and inform future discussions with Government and other stakeholders.

Therefore, a series of questions will relate to the type of services people are likely to require from St Helena Government and in what way, if at all, the Government should be getting better in providing these services.

In addition, there will be the opportunity for participants to give general comments on how they think St Helena Government should develop in St Helena.

Surveys should reach people on 8th January 2010 and Saint FM/St Helena Independent is hoping that a high proportion of people will respond to the questions.

Those who do not get a survey can still comment as part of the consultation. Submissions should be made in writing to "Saint FM/St Helena Independent at Association Hall" no later that 15th January 2010
