FALKLANDS’ CAMP CONSTITUENCY FINAL VOTE TALLY
By J. Brock (FINN)
With 89.9% of the Camp Constituency voting, a major upset has taken place in elections to the Legislative Assembly in the Falkland Islands. The Camp vote has taken place with the Returning Officer Mr Timothy Rupert Thorogood announcing that 638 votes were cast. First with the most votes is Roger Anthony Edwards with 148 votes, joint second were Sharon Halford and Bill Luxton with 147 votes. Ian Hansen got 93 votes, Richard James Stevens got 57 votes and David Clive Wilkinson got 46 votes. There was one spoiled ballot paper.
Sharon Halford mentioned that the people wanted change and that the high turn out indicated that. Roger Edwards said he was over the moon at the results and Bill Luxton says he's gobsmacked. Obviously all are delighted with the result but acknowledging a lot of work to be done in the next assembly.
“I therefore declare that Edwards, Roger Anthony, Halford, Sharon and Luxton, William Robert be duly elected for the Legislative Assembly to serve the Camp Constituency until the dissolution of the Legislative Assembly for the General Election 2013,” said Mr Thorogood.
With 75.6 percent of voters in the Stanley Constituency marking ballots the count took a good hour longer than anticipated. A report on who the Stanley winners are is up and coming.
