Falklands : Falklands Receive Communications Report
Submitted by Falkland Islands News Network (Juanita Brock) 02.11.2009 (Article Archived on 16.11.2009)

The Report is not expected to be made public soon.

CHRIS DOYLE’S REPORT

By J. Brock (FINN)

Dr Doyle’s report was received on Friday, 23 October 2009.  He has been examining the state of telecommunications available in the Falkland Islands and is recommending possible changes to telecommunications legislation.  Earlier this year a report was received from Dr Doyle but it did not contain an essential draft of a new telecommunications law.

According to the Attorney General Mr David Pickup QC the report will be considered and a decision will be taken as to whether the report will be released.  It could be that the report will be considered by Executive Council prior to any release to the public.

It is thought that commercial in confidence material will be discussed with Cable & Wireless before any release to the public.  Also to be considered will be any edits prior to publication such as commercially sensitive material.

At this stage it is not known when the report will be published.  If publication is possible prior to the election consideration must be taken as to whether this is appropriate.

Prior to making the report public arguments from the Chamber of Commerce and other arguments for or against publication will be heard.
