WOOL REPORT: for the week ending Friday 27th December 2002
Auctions
With Christmas festivities this week, there were no auctions in Australia, South Africa, Britain and New Zealand. The Australian Eastern Market Indicator thus remains at 1,165 A cents, the Cape Overall Merino Indicator stays at 4571 SA cents/kg whilst the British Indicator is at 76 pence/greasy kg. The New Zealand Fine Indicator is at 1498 NZ cents, their Medium Indicator at 800 NZ cents, the Strong Indicator at 450 NZ cents and the Lamb Indicator at 476 NZ cents.
Sales will recommence on 7th January 2003.
Currencies
Currency markets were trading for much of this week. At the time of writing the Australian dollar was trading little changed on the week at about A$2.86/£ whilst the New Zealand dollar was about three cents weaker at NZ$3.09/£.
Australia
Wool supply continues to be of concern in Australia, with news that Western Australian brokers have cancelled the Freemantle sale scheduled for the week of 13th January 2003 as they have only 5000 bales nominated for the sale.
FWG Agency
Camp Wool: in answer to a recent question from farmers – there is indeed a market for Camp wool plucked cleanly from casualty sheep. Prices for Camp wool of over half-length staples are anticipated to be at least at similar levels to Double Grown wool. Do contact this office if you wish to discuss Camp wool further.
Our Customers currently anticipate having excellent demand for Falklands wool in 2003. All additional supplies of fleeces or oddments would be welcome.
With Best Wishes for a Happy New Year 2003
Robert & Diane
