St Helena : The Strategic SHG
Submitted by Saint Helena Herald (Public Relations Information Office) 09.08.2009 (Article Archived on 23.08.2009)

All Government departments are preparing their plans for the next three years. This exercise is not new to SHG but this year, things are somewhat different. Departments have adopted and are working to a new, strategic approach to planning what they do. This should allow St Helena to provide better plans and budget requests and to secure the money needed to maintain and develop crucial services for the Island.

The strengthened approach was designed with support from the Public Service Modernisation (PSM) team and follows best practices used in many other countries. It will help SHG to demonstrate why it needs money, what it is going to do with the money and how this will help to improve St Helena in the long run.

Acting Chief Secretary, Gillian Francis said “Councillors and Heads of Department have looked at progress to date and how to achieve the objectives. This has resulted in a set of priorities for SHG to work on. Every department has reviewed these priorities and has said what they will do to help to achieve the objectives.”

Once the strategic plans are finalised, progress will be regularly monitored by the Office of the Chief Secretary.

The PSM team has delivered training to over 160 people across SHG to ensure the success of the new strategic planning process.
