Visit of Crown Counsel for Ascension

The Attorney General, Ken Baddon, announced today that Crown Counsel for Ascension, Gabrielle McAvock, will make a business visit to St. Helena from 9 August to 6 September, 2009.  During this time, Gabrielle will work with the Attorney General on a range of Ascension legal issues, with the emphasis on arrangements to bring the new Constitution into operation.  She will also spend time familiarising herself with the institutions of Government on St. Helena, which will be helpful to her in her ongoing work with the Island Council on Ascension.

Gabrielle took up office in February of this year and will serve as Crown Counsel for Ascension on a two year contract. After graduating from the University of London, Gabrielle studied with various law schools and went on to work as a barrister in London. She has also worked as a Major in the Army where she specialised in criminal law.
