New Chief of Police Arrives
Royce Hipgrave has returned to St Helena to work as Chief of Police. He arrived on Sunday 14 June and has commenced work on a 6 month contract.
Royce is quite familiar with St Helena, having served as Chief of Police from 1999 to 2001. He also carried out further work on the Island in late 2001, as a Senior Development Advisor to the Police Department.
On speaking about his return to the Island, he said “Coming back to St Helena is great for me. I was here for just over 2 years and it’s good to be, once again, carrying out police work with the team on St Helena.”
Royce began his career as a police cadet in the UK in the 1960’s and quickly progressed in his field to take on the role of Constable, Sergeant and Inspector. In addition to meeting the demands of policing, Royce has also focused specifically on staff training and headed up the Personnel Department for Sussex Police. He also worked as Staff Officer to the Chief Constable. He served as Divisional Commander for East Sussex before taking up the post of Chief of Police in St Helena.
The St Helena Government is seeking to fill the position of Chief of Police permanently at the end of Royce’s contract.
