Applications are invited from suitably qualified persons to fill the post of Mathematics Teacher at the Two Boats School.  We are seeking a teacher who is adaptable to life on a small island and who is able to work collaboratively with a small group of secondary teachers and who will be prepared to use his/her skills for the benefit of not only the school pupils but also members of the wider community.


 


The successful applicant will be responsible to the Head Teacher and will be required to teach mathematics to all pupils at Key Stage 3 and 4.


 


A job description is available on request but the main duties of post are:


 



  • Undertake education of all students in Years 7 to 11 in Mathematics to GCSE level under the requirements of the agreed syllabus and scheme of work for Two Boats School within the framework of the UK National Curriculum

  • Have due regard for the School’s aims, objectives and ethos

  • Responsible for the monitoring, evaluation and development of the Maths syllabus and scheme of work in conjunction with the curriculum co-ordinator

  • Ensure the smooth transition of students, subject content and assessment/reporting procedures from Primary to Secondary with Year 6 Teacher

  • Work as a collaborative member of the secondary sector and whole school

  • Responsible for the monitoring, assessment and reporting of students’ progress and standards in Mathematics through individual records and to parents

  • Responsible for pastoral care and PHSE programme for the assigned tutor group

 


The successful applicant should be familiar with the UK National Curriculum in Mathematics and have at least four years teaching experience.  The ability to work as one of a small Secondary team of teachers and assume for the school full subject responsibility in maths is essential. The ability to teach a subject(s) other than maths, preferably PE, will be required.


 


The salary for the post will depend on qualifications and experience and will be subject to Ascension Island Government income tax. In addition to the salary, accommodation will be provided and a married allowance of £4600 or single allowance of £2460 per annum will be paid.


 


The successful candidate will be expected to take up post in September 2004.
