According to a press release from Police Chief Paul Elliott, the Royal Falkland Islands Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the sudden death of Mr Melvyn Turner (aged 69years) of John Street Stanley.

The investigation began when a call was received by Police at 08:53 on Thursday 30th April 2009 from relatives of Mr Turner.  The relatives had gone to his home, finding him apparently dead in a downstairs room of the house.

Death was confirmed at the house by Dr Edwards and the Coroner Mr John Tevaskis has been informed. Arrangements have been made for a forensic pathologist to fly to the Islands to conduct a post mortem examination on Monday 4th May to determine the cause of the death.

Police Chief Elliott commented that it is not appropriate to make any further comment regarding this tragic incident at this stage.
