Bishop Venner at Government House on Tuesday

Bishop Stephen Venner is visiting the Falklands on behalf of the Archbishop of Canterbury.  This time he is accompanied by his wife, Mrs Judy Venner.  The couple arrived on Monday, 16 February.

The couple have visited the KEMH and have met with Councillors as well as the media.  A reception was given for the Bishop and Mrs Venner by H. E the Governor and Mrs Huckle.

Bishop and Mrs Venner will travel throughout East and West Falkland visiting parishioners and viewing the wildlife.

On Tuesday, 17 February Bishop Venner met with the media where he explained his role in carrying out the Archbishop’s duties in the Falklands due to his heavy schedule and other priorities.  He went on to say that he hoped to offer encouragement and support for the Anglican community in the Falklands.  He also discussed the role of the Cathedral in the community and the insurance that this role would carry on to future generations.  He noticed the sense of community in the Falklands that is sadly fading in the UK and elsewhere. He touched on religious education in the schools as well as the church’s role during difficult economic times.
