Falklands : Falklands - "Lock it or Lose it," Says Sgt Roberts
Submitted by Falkland Islands News Network (Juanita Brock) 15.01.2009 (Article Archived on 29.01.2009)

“LOCK IT OR LOSE IT,” SAYS SGT ROBERTS

Sgt Dave Roberts (RFIP)

Over the past few months, there has been an increase in opportunist thefts and criminal trespass into buildings.  In December 2008, an elderly couple had an unknown person enter their home and remove a substantial quantity of money. Later that month the same people had a person enter their workshop and take a jerry-can of fuel. There have also been reports of either outbuildings or even homes where items are not believed to have been taken but it is known that the properties have been entered. Each time the building had not been locked.

During 2008, the Royal Falkland islands police have had a report of eight vehicles being taken without the owners consent. Each time the vehicle was left insecure with the keys left in the ignition which may have invalidated any insurance claim.

The Falkland Islands are a safe and friendly place to live, however there are people in the community that are willing to take advantage of your trust as is highlighted above.

A change of thinking is now required by everyone– lock it or lose it
