Two people related to the Falkland Islands have been given New Year’s Honours by H. M. the Queen. Mrs Shirley Adams-Leach (MBE) and Brigadier Nick Davies MC (CBE) will receive their awards in due course.
It is not known where Brigadier Davis will receive his award but Mrs Shirley Adams-Leach told FIRS that she wanted to receive her MBE
When contacted about the awards H. E. the Governor Mr Alan Huckle said, "I am very pleased to see these two well-deserved awards in the 2009 New Year Honours list. Brigadier Nick Davies was an excellent CBF who helped to ensure that the potentially sensitive 25th Anniversary commemorations of the 1982 conflict passed off so successfully. And Shirley Adams-Leach, in her modest, self-effacing way, has done much to earn the respect and gratitude of all in the community for her work in inspiring a love of music in our school children. She is a prime example of those who are prepared to go beyond the call of duty and to devote much of their personal time to transfer their special skills to our youngsters."
