A proclamation to put the new constitution into effect on 01 January 2009 has been signed by H. E. the Governor Mr Alan Huckle during a brief reception held at Government House at 1130hrs on Monday, 08 December 2008.

In his remarks welcoming the proclamation Cllr Summers said that commemoration events like Battle Day as well as Remembrance Sunday and the 14th of June remind us about the importance of justice and the rule of law.  It was therefore appropriate to sign the Proclamation today.  He went on to thank all who had participated in the lengthy process and finished with a toast to internal self government and the Government of the Falkland Islands.
