A Draft Bill has been published which proposes a small amendment to the Mental Health Ordinance.

Proposed Amendment to the Mental Health Ordinance

A Draft Bill has been published which proposes a small amendment to the Mental Health Ordinance.

Carol George, Chief Administrative Health and Social Services Officer explained that the Bill is proposing for a section of the Community Care Centre to be included in the law as an “approved home”. This will allow the Psychiatric Hospital Tribunal to continue visiting persons who were formerly resident at Sundale House.

The Bill is out for public consultation and Legislative Council will meet in early 2009 to decide whether this proposal should become law. If members of the public have comments on what is being proposed then their comments should be submitted in writing to the Attorney General at the Legal, Lands and Planning Department or on email pa.lawofficers@legalandlands.gov.sh

Members of the public can also submit comments to their Councillors. This should be done by no later than Thursday 15 January 2009.
