Insurance Company Takes Responsibility for Ocean 8 Incident

Since the sinking of the Ocean 8, the Falkland Islands Government has been encouraging the vessel's owners and their insurance company to take responsibility for their vessel and produce a plan to deal with the oil on board.
The insurance company of the Ocean 8, the P+I Club, has now accepted liability and are contacting salvage companies with experience in recovering heavy oil from a sunken vessel.
Unfortunately, reality dictates that these actions will take time to come to fruition. In the mean time the Falkland Islands Government will continue to monitor the wreck site and strive to minimise further pollution. The Falkland Islands Government is employing local divers to return to examine the Ocean 8 and explore the possibility of further work in stabilising the wreck.
Every one would like the process of recovering the oil to be done as quickly as possible and Government agencies involved are working to that end. Needless to say, FIG are pleased however that a process to recover the oil has begun.
