Falklands : Concordia Bay Schedule Suspended
Submitted by Falkland Islands News Network (Juanita Brock) 21.07.2008 (Article Archived on 04.08.2008)

Workboat Services Limited regret to advise that the schedule for MV Concordia bay has been suspended.

PRESS INFORMATION NOTICE

Workboat Services Limited regret to advise that the schedule for MV Concordia bay has been suspended.

Following an encouraging initial weekend when a significant number of passengers were carried by the ferry service,  some heavy plant transported and with the vessel operating to the breakwater at New Haven the plan was that the first trip to the south east Islands and West Falkland ports would be undertaken.

Unfortunately a problem with the vessel’s fuel became acute and the vessel returned to FIPASS for this to be dealt with.  Thanks to the hard work of everyone onboard and with the valuable assistance of shore side contractors good progress was made with this and the Island trip was due to commence late last week.

However on departure it was found that essential bridge equipment was not operable. The Company’s priority is safety and it was clear that until this was rectified the vessel could not proceed on the planned trip.

The ship is off charter until the fault is repaired.

Every effort is being made to bring the vessel back into service with minimum delay.  The replacement unit required has been sourced and arrangements are being made for it to arrive on Friday 25th July.

We are extremely aware of the inconvenience this delay in service will be causing and regret that at the moment it is not possible to give a firm date for the resumption of the service although it is planned that a replacement unit will arrive on Friday and be fitted immediately.

A further information notice will be made later in the week by which time we hope to be in a position to provide information regarding the vessels new itinerary.

Please contact Workboat Services Office on telephone 22300 for further information.
