Premier Honourable Ralph T. O’Neal, OBE, signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the U.K. Government on Wednesday, 23 April, 2008 towards the Territory’s promotion to a Category I Red Ensign Group ship registry. The document was later approved by the Privy Council and laid on the table of the U.K. Parliament for 21 days before it took effect on 4th June, 2008 as a new law.
