St Helena : St Helena Swears in Acting Governor

Ethel Yon OBE, Acting Chief Secretary, was sworn in as Acting Governor, today Saturday 10 May 2008 at 11am.

Ethel Yon OBE, Acting Chief Secretary, was sworn in as Acting Governor, today Saturday 10 May 2008 at 11am.


The ceremony was held in the Governor’s Office at the Castle in the presence of invited guests including the Speaker, Honourable Members and Heads of Department.


The Oaths of Office were administered by the Sheriff, Pat Musk MBE and Bishop John gave a blessing.


In her address, the Acting Governor said that with the support of those in attendance, as well as friends and family, she would work to the best of her ability to serve them and the people of the Island.


Following this, the Acting Governor was congratulated and invited guests enjoyed light snacks.


The Appointment of Acting Governor has been made because Governor Gurr is currently away from the Island on overseas leave and official business. During this time, Dr Corinda Essex, Chief Development Officer is serving as Acting Chief Secretary and Gillian Francis continues to serve as Acting Deputy Chief Secretary.


The appointment of Acting Governor will run until 11 June 2008 and then from 12 to 20 June 2008 Ethel will serve as Deputy to Governor.
