Falklands Celebrate Queen’s Birthday with a Parade

A parade to celebrate the birthday of H. M. the Queen has been held at Victory Green today, 21st April 2008. The parade will form up at 10.15 hours and consisted of contingents from the Royal Navy, Resident Infantry company at Mount Pleasant, the Falkland Islands Defence Force and the Royal Air Force. Also in attendance will be representatives of the Legislative Council and the Falkland Islands Government. Members of the youth organisations: Sea and Marine Cadets, Girl Guides and Scouts were also at the parade.
At 1025hrs Commander British Forces South Atlantic Islands Brigadier Nick Davies arrived with his adjutant. His Excellency the Governor Mr Alan Huckle arrived in the Red Taxi at 10.30 hours.
Proceeding along usual lines, the ceremony began with an inspection of the troops by H. E. the Governor and CBSAI. A gun salute and the raising of the Royal Standard preceded a fly past at 1045hrs consisting of a SeaKing Search and Rescue Helicopter with a Union Jack flying from a rope underneath, a VC-10 accompanied by two Tornado Aircraft and a Hercules Aircraft. This was followed by a march past at which His Excellency the Governor took the Royal Salute.
A reception in Honour of the Queen’s birthday was held at Government House at 1230hrs where members of the Girl Guides served finger food to the guests. This was the first time in recent memory that Girl Guides did the serving at Government House.
