Appointment of Business Finance Manager

The senior post of Business Finance Manager has been filled in the St Helena Government by Cherie Dillon who previously worked as SHG’s Shipping Officer.

She said “I look forward to the challenges this post will provide. I shall miss working as Shipping Officer but I am looking forward to working in my new role.”

This is a new post in SHG and Cherie will be working closely with Virginia Grace, Financial Secretary, to create an enabling environment where demand for private sector goods and services will increase.

To achieve this, Cherie will be developing various policies to support the private sector, placing emphasis on ensuring that good practice is maintained. She will work closely with Susan O’Bey, Contracts and External Services Manager and Pamela Young, Director of Tourism as well as other people in the tourism sector.

Cherie’s work will also involve looking at subsidised organisations which receive financial support from SHG. In particular she will concentrate on the contents of their business plans and whether they are complying with any agreed conditions. In this area, her work will include monitoring achievements and recommending appropriate action when targets are not achieved.

The third area of work will include the management of the Investment Policy. This will involve liasing with the St Helena Development Agency on applications for Approved Investment Status and preparing reports for the Investment Panel, which will include key recommendations.

In addition, Cherie will liase with the private sector on matters of common interest. In this regard she will represent SHG on the National Economic Forum. She will also be in regular contact with all key stakeholders including traders and organisations such as the Chamber of Commerce. Her work will also bring her into contact with the Department for International Development’s Private Sector Development Advisor and the Foreign and Commonwealth Office as well as Kedell Worboys, the SHG UK Representative and Adam Kossowski, the Commercial Representative for Southern Africa.

Cherie’s previous experience includes working as Personnel Officer for Solomon and Company and as Shipping Officer for SHG. She has a Bachelors Degree in Psychology (with History) and a Masters Degree in Business Studies.
