St Helena : St Helena's Business Activities in South Africa
Submitted by Saint Helena Herald (Juanita Brock) 16.04.2008 (Article Archived on 30.04.2008)

Business continues in Southern Africa and beyond with the appointment of Commercial Representative, Adam Kossowski on a one-year contract.

Activities in South Africa

Business continues in Southern Africa and beyond with the appointment of Commercial Representative, Adam Kossowski on a one-year contract. Adam will continue to manage various ongoing investment interests and business enquiries for St Helena and looks forward to the year ahead.

He said: “I am honoured that the St Helena Government and St Helena Development Agency continue to entrust this representative role to me, and feel that at this time the opportunity to attract sustainable investment on St Helena will be very much in line with the finalisation of the air access process. Something I look forward to being part of in realising the investment potential this will bring to the island.”

The St Helena Government and the St Helena Development Agency recently awarded the contract and Adam will continue to focus on his main responsibilities with  promoting St Helena as a tourism and investment destination while also providing information and related support to heads of departments in their various capacities, where needed.

Adam continues to liase with international investors who have an interest in various sectors of St Helena’s economy. These include services within tourism, construction, agriculture, education, and others. He said that interest shown by potential investors is now largely focused in line with air access for the island.  With the introduction of approved investment status, Adam will increasingly get involved   in conducting necessary background checks while liasing with key counterparts both on and off the island to ensure interests are closely monitored and all required support is provided promptly.

To keep interest and awareness about St Helena amongst the international business community, Adam disseminates frequent information updates about key developments on the island via his investor network database to a wide range of key contacts in industry and government with whom he retains links internationally. Recently Adam launched a monthly ezine for St Helenians that provides updated key summaries of monthly interest shown in the island, as well as a business and investment summary analysis covering African developments. This is in line with his role to help improve the island’s business awareness about related developments, the economy, investment and other opportunities in Africa.

Adam also conducts work on behalf of the St Helena Development Agency and its clients. This includes sourcing appropriate contacts, products or goods on behalf of the SHDA clientele in the region.

Outside of the tourism and investment, Adam also attends and maintains ongoing contact with key parties such as the British and French Consul and assists with enquiries related to immigration and passport control on behalf of the St Helena Government.
