(Sporting Blind Dave)

Earliest sporting memory: Jeff Astle scoring the winner for West Bromwich Albion in the FA Cup final against Everton in 1968. I'm a big Baggies man. Not being able to see very well playing sport is also an early memory. I have Retinitis Pigmentosa; I was born with the condition. Mum and Dad never got to grips with it until I was 10. I was always known as a clumsy kid but I was always into sport and loved athletics. My first sporting memory is coming second in the 100-yard dash at primary school.

The final resting places of more than 750 people who lost their lives at sea will be protected by the Ministry of Defence. The MOD has extended additional legal protection to ten shipwrecks under the Protection of Military Remains Act (PMRA) 1986 to ensure the sites are safe from disturbance from divers.

The latest list of shipwrecks to be protected by the Act include the ATLANTIC CONVEYOR, lost during the Falklands campaign of 1982, HMS CURACAO, where 338 men perished in the Atlantic in 1942, and the merchant ship SS STORAA, where 21 crew members lost their lives after enemy action off the coast of Hastings.

The occasion (on March 8) is the launch of “Returning Home”, a report on the prospects of resettlement of Chagossian exiles currently living in Mauritius, the Seychelles and the UK to two of the outer islands in the Chagos archipelago, Peros Banhos and Salomon, which lie some 2200 miles east of Madagascar.
