Falklands : Stanley Services Ltd Celebrates 20 Years in the Falklands

The Company began its life in Fairclough-Miller's accommodation site in Malvina Paddock.

Robert Rowlands brought home the point that truck drivers and clerks can advance in the Company - to Company Accountants and General Managers.  He said that now there are 600 fuel deliveries a month in all sorts of weather.

STANLEY SERVICES LTD CELEBRATES 20 YEARS IN THE FALKLANDS

March 3^rd was a red letter day for Stanley Services Limited as the Company celebrated 20 years in the Falklands.  At a gala reception at the Malvina House Hotel – in a marquee on the lawn, approximately 100 people gathered to help Stanley Services Celebrate 20 years and to hear remarks by the General Manager, Mr. Robert Rowlands, Board Member Mr John Robertson and outgoing Chairman Cllr Mike Summers.  Each person recounted some of the Company’s history and thanked people who were instrumental in helping the Company along during the past 20 years.

Among my first memories of the emergence of Stanley Service was the tendering process for fuel delivery.  There were three vying for the contract including the Falkland Islands Company, who held the fuel delivery contract at the time.  Tom Swales had come unaccompanied at the time and set up shop in one of Fairclough Miller’s Porta-cabins in Malvina Paddock.

Since then the Company has branched out into fuel storage, vehicles and supply of boilers and has moved from those porta-cabins to a facility on the Airport road that includes a retail shop.  The state of the art fuel storage facility is located at FIPASS.

Returning for the 20^th anniversary were John Robertson and Peter George as well as Tom Swales, who still manages the company at the UK end.

At the ceremony Mr Robertson announced a scholarship for students over 21 years old who want to better themselves and benefit the Falklands.  £10,000.00 per annum will be granted to the mature student with the right stuff.

Mr. John Robertson spoke of a £10,000.00 scholarship to students who can benefit the Falklands as well as themselves.

Cllr Summers spoke of difficult times not being particularly bad ones and hewelcomed Cllr Clausen as the new Chairman of the Stanley Services Board.

The event was organised by SeaLed PR and catered by the Malvina House Hotel.
